COVID-19: Mental Health Considerations For Return to Work

Friday, July 10th, 2020
9:00AM - 10:00AM

Presented by:
Marc Celentana, Ph.D.

With ever-evolving state-specific guidance regarding timing for return to work, seemingly daily start-and-stop of both conveniences (e.g., restaurants) and necessities (e.g., childcare facilities) due to coronavirus flare ups, as well as stories of personal, family, and business economic hardship becoming all-too-common, it is no wonder the issue of mental health currently requires attention. If you are opening or have recently opened one office, some offices, or an entire practice, it is likely that the sequel of the coronavirus crisis will require that you develop appreciation for the mental health concerns not only for administrative and professional staff but also for those seeking care.

In this presentation, we will consider the practical, proactive steps practice managers can take to help staff returning to the workplace. Some employees will face practical difficulties, for example around caring responsibilities and commuting. Other employees may be worried in relation to any potential exposure to the virus. Some may also feel anxious about increased social contact involved in sharing a workplace with others and interacting with patients and clients. While social interaction generally improves one’s sense of mental well-being, and it is also an important part of practices returning to economic viability, it may seem daunting for some.

In this presentation, practice managers will learn the following:

  • Appreciate the value in acknowledging and supporting mental health concerns in the workplace

  • Why conducting return-to-work meetings will generate a wealth of actionable information related to virus-specific issues and concerns

  • Establish practices to cultivate organizational culture despite coronavirus pandemic

  • Understand the “cost of isolation” and how it may play out in workplace interactions

  • Promote access to support and respond empathically to mental health concerns
